While many Baltimore fans are still celebrating the good times the Super Bowl win a month ago, the team is already making a lot of tough decisions on how to form their team for the 2013 NFL season. From Joe Flacco’s contract to Anquan Boldin’s trade to the 49ers, there are a lot of changes being made. With a busy first day of free agency, including Paul Kruger and Dannell Ellerbe being signed to other teams, a big decision remains with Ed Reed.
As far as resumes go, Reed is considered by many to be heading to Canton once he is eligible. He has been one of the keys for the Ravens on defense since 2002 when he was drafted 24th overall and has always been considered a playmaker since then. Keeping Reed on the team for his knack of always being able to find the ball and making clutch plays would certainly help the Ravens, especially helping the defense be a defense worth having for fantasy football fans in 2013. Unfortunately, Reed is turning 35 this year and is certainly on the decline.
The NFL can be harsh at times, as many Baltimore fans would be sad to see Reed leave, but if they want more Super Bowl titles, the Ravens need to retain younger talent first and think about the future. For now, we can only wait and trust in Ozzie to make the right decision.
