The Baltimore Ravens announced on Monday that they have signed long snapper Patrick Scales, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun.
Last season, Scales
was brought in during training camp to provide some competition for Morgan Cox. However, Cox, 26, beat out Scales for the long-snapping duties and Scales was given the pink slip as part of the Ravens’ roster cut down to 53 players.
Cox, the Ravens’ 2011 Ed Block Courage award recipient, had a solid season last year and didn’t do anything to lose his job.
Since taking over as head coach in 2008, John Harbaugh has been all about competition at every position.
That being said, this is a move that will keep Cox on his toes and if anything, it will push him to continue to get better as the Ravens’ long snapper.
