The Baltimore Ravens placed running back Ricky Williams on the reserve/retired list last Friday.
By placing Williams on the reserve/retired list, the Ravens would retain Williams’ rights should he return for the 2012 season. Williams, 34, is under contract through next season, but Baltimore gets to take his $1.5 million base salary off its salary cap.
Williams played in all 16 games last season serving as Ray Rice’s backup, carrying the ball 108 times for 444 yards and two touchdowns.
If Williams were to make a comeback, it wouldn’t be the first time. He retired previously before the 2004 season when facing a four-game suspension for violating the league’s drug policy. However, he returned to play for the Miami Dolphins in 2005.
