The Baltimore Ravens announced last Thursday that former Rutgers running backs coach Chris Hewitt has been hired as the team’s new assistant special teams coach, and that Matt Weiss has been promoted from the assistant to head coach John Harbaugh to defensive assistant.

Hewitt, 37, has ties to both Harbaugh and special teams coordinator and assistant head coach Jerry Rosburg from his days as an All-Conference USA defensive back at the University of Cincinnati when they were on the Bearcats coaching staff.

Hewitt has previous experience with the Ravens, having participated twice with the team in training camps as part of the NFL minority coaching fellowship program.

Meanwhile, Weiss served as Harbaugh’s assistant for the past three seasons, while also working on defensive quality control, where he focused on scouting reports and the Ravens’ scout teams in practice.
