About two weeks ago, CBS Sports’ Charley Casserly reported that Baltimore Ravens center Matt Birk would retire following the 2011 season.
It came as a bit of a surprise to Birk at the time.
Birk, 35, told ProFootballTalk Live earlier on Friday, that he will decide between retirement and returning to the Ravens for a fourth season in Baltimore, and a 15th season in the NFL.
His contract is set to expire at the end of the league year in March, so the Ravens will have to express their desire for Birk to return. But they should want him to return. Birk has proven to be durable, having started every game in three seasons with the Ravens.
Birk said he’ll make the decision after
his body “heals up.”
For a team with Super Bowl hopes and aspirations, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Birk return to the Charm City for one more season.
