Cundiff Joined Rare Company Sunday Night in Pittsburgh
Baltimore Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff became part of an elite group Sunday night when he drove a 51-yard field goal through the uprights with no time remaining in the second quarter of the team’s 23-20 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Cundiff became just the third kicker in the history of Heinz Field to successfully make a field goal from over 50-yards. The other two are former Steeler, Jeff Reed and former San Francisco 49er, Joe Nedney.
In fact, Reed has booted two field goals of at least 50-yards, and owns the record for the longest made field goal at Heinz Field— a 52-yarder against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 12, 2010.
However, Cundiff’s kick proved to be the most critical as it gave the Ravens a 9-6 edge at halftime, and it proved to be the ultimate difference in the team’s three-point win.
