Baltimore Ravens center Matt Birk was fined $5,000 for not wearing a microphone in the team’s latest game.
However, the veteran center will appeal the fine, according to his agent Joe Linta. Linta’s reasoning for Birk not wearing the microphone is because Birk could not get it to work in a satisfactory manner.
Each team is required to have a microphone placed in the pads of one or two interior offensive lineman, as part of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The rule is supposed to enhance the sound of the game, according to thesidelineview.com
Birk, 35, is in the final year of his three-year deal and has a $3 million base salary for this season.
