Rookie cornerback Jimmy Smith returned to the practice field Monday following the Ravens bye week. However, Smith doesn’t expect his left ankle sprain to be fully healed for Sunday’s home contest against the Houston Texans.
Here’s what Smith told reporters following Monday’s practice concerning his status for Sunday’s game:
“Realistically, I highly doubt it,” Smith said of his return this week. “I’ve just got to get over that last little hump, agility, moving side to side and lateral and backpedaling and planting and that stuff. That’s the final stage we’re in right now.”
Smith, who suffered the injury week one against division rival Pittsburgh, has missed the team’s pass three games.
The Ravens have expressed optimism to have their first-round pick back by this point, but the injury has taken a lot longer to heal than the Ravens and Smith first anticipated.
Luckily, for the Smith and the Ravens, the Texans will be minus wide receiver Andre Johnson for Sunday’s game.
