The sudden burst of rumors that Baltimore Ravens star DT Haloti Ngata agreed to a contract extension with the team can now be confirmed.
According to BaltimoreRavens.com, the 27-year old defensive lineman was signed just hours before the 4pm EST league deadline of taking off the franchise tag from players. The deal consists of $61 million over 5 years, with around $40 million in guaranteed money.
The signing does open up some salary cap room, but it’s unclear what the Ravens will do with that extra money this point. Nonetheless, getting Ngata locked into a deal has been a huge priority for the team and something fans have been wanting ever since the NFL locked ended. The 2006 1st-round draft pick had this to say regarding the deal:
“This is a great feeling, and I can’t explain how many different emotions I have… What I want to do now is continue to get better every year and help the team get better. Our goal is to win Super Bowls, and I want to do my best to help us make that happen.”
This is definitely the best news so far this week, following the embarrassing loss to the Tennessee Titans last Sunday.
