Baltimore Ravens Recap of the Week 02/18/11

Hello Ravens fans! Pretty slow week for Baltimore Ravens news, but a few big stories did emerge!

The big news of the week is that the Ravens have decided to place their franchise tag on Haloti Ngata. This tag is nonexclusive and does allow him to negotiate with other teams. Should he decide to sign somewhere else, the Baltimore Ravens will receive two first round draft picks! Head Coach John Harbaugh is content on keeping Ngata and even refers to it as his “number one priority” in the offseason.

Speaking of Harbaugh, news broke this week that he signed a three-year, $12 million contract extension with the Ravens. This deal makes him the second highest paid coach in the AFC North, just behind Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. I know I’m happy to have him locked up with us until the 2014 season!

Finally, the topic of conversation this week for everyone in the league continues to be about the labor talks. In one interview, Ravens Dominique Foxworth said that owners are set for a lockout and are ready to put the pressure on the players. The NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed to seven consecutive days of negotiation. Hopefully, these talks will allow for mediation and some sort of mutual agreement.

Check back next week for all the latest contract and draft news, as well as updates on the ongoing labor negotiations!
