The deadline for RFA (restricted free agents) to sign their tenders is this Thursday, April 15th.
Since the beginning of this week, 4 players have signed their tenders: Billy Cundiff, John Beck, Chris Chester, and Prescott Burgess.
Cundiff joined the Ravens late in the season last year and started in nine games. He made 15 field goals out of 20 attempts and was perfect in the playoffs. While his return is important, many fans and critics are still unsure about his consistency.
Beck was the 3rd string quarterback last year and did not make a single throw in the regular season. His signing shows his desire to stay in Baltimore and to have a larger role in the Ravens offense. He might get his chance next season when he competes with Troy Smith for the number 2 spot.
Chester started as a guard for 13 games last year and is very versatile. In addition to playing the guard and center positions, Chester also played as a tight end in jumbo packages. The return of the former 2nd-round pick bodes well for the Ravens O-line.
Burgess was a backup linebacker that didn’t get much playing time on defense, but was a solid contributer on special teams. He actually led the team in special team tackles with 34 stops. I’m not sure how I feel about Burgess, but I do know his return only helps our special teams.
There are still 11 Baltimore Ravens RFA that have yet to sign their tenders. With only 2 days left, stay posted for news on these remaining players; tomorrow should be a big day in RFA signings.
